Tom, I really love that idea! Please keep ’em coming. Are you responding to your reminders on a regular basis, by the way? Hope so… you always post things of value.

Hi Jim! I’m so sorry I missed this when you posted it. We are so honored to have you as a member. Stay tuned for the next phase of CGL expansion and development that should come starting with International Project Management Day (IPMDay) on November 3rd. Then hopefully we will have a lot more chatting, dialogue and support. Let me know that you have seen this belated reply to your post. Best, Judy

Tom, this is a heart-breaking and very story that you told in response to Kathy’s desire to understand what went wrong with her acknowledgment. You so remind me of the case study we used in our Grateful Leadership On Demand course, about “Challenging People.” Do you remember it? It was about the constant negative responses given by one team member until someone finally started to listen to him (after reading “The Power of Acknowledgment,” I might add 🙂 and she realized he was a brilliant “failure analyst” who saw risks that no one else saw and he was correct about them! He, too, said she was the first person who ever listened to him and employed what he said. It’s so sad that these people are not listened to by most — congratulations on making a true difference, even with the challenges you described. This is an amazing story. Maybe time to record it and put it up on the Tell Me a Story feature? I think with you telling it, you would have a lot of listeners/viewers. Just a thought…

I love this post so much! It makes me think of my 5 year old granddaughter to whom I dedicated my latest book, “You’re Totally Awesome! The Power of Acknowledgment for Kids.” It sounds like your granddaughter could write (or at least dictate) a new story for that book. Several of the stories were dictated by young children. In any event, if she doesn’t already have it, we would like to give her a copy of that book as IIL’s gift. Please email me your mailing address so that you can present it to her. Here’s the back-to-school post I wrote recently about young children and what I wish for their educational experience to be: http://www.gratefulleadership.com/bursting-with-pride-and-with-promises/

Tom, your challenge is an inspiration to all of us! I love it and hope everyone will participate. I would say that 90% of all heartfelt acknowledgments have long-lasting, even miraculous impact, but there are some that are brushed off or not well-received. Kathy Kest posted an example of this on our Communications Board a while back. Perhaps you would like to comment on that post. And thanks so much for encouraging people to come by and post on this Board (or for the Tell Me a Story feature) at least once a week. We can all give and get support that way. I am grateful for yours!

Tom, this is truly awesome! What fantastic progress you have made since you really started exploring the power of acknowledgment and Grateful Leadership! I am very moved and inspired not just by your actions, but by the courage it took for you to break out of the mold you felt trapped by. I refer others to your “winning excuse” for withholding acknowledgment way back when: http://www.gratefulleadership.com/and-the-winner-is-tom-kiley-project-leader-sandvik-special-metals/  We can all be inspired by Tom’s commitment to change and the results he is producing. Bravo, Tom and thanks so much for sharing this with us!

Chaplain Davis, we are so happy to have you participating with us on the Center for Grateful Leadership! Your leadership example, which I cited in the Grateful Leadership book, is a real inspiration to everyone who reads it. We look forward to your ongoing contributions and hopefully we can support your vision of bringing the message and reality of The Power of Acknowledgement throughout the military.

Tom, it is wonderful that you have joined us. Your desire to grow in the area of acknowledgment competency has been inspirational to me. Our coaching session, your prize for the contest you entered last IPMDay, was a joy for me because I could see how willing to expand you were and continue to be. This latest example is just further evidence of this. Please keep sharing your “Grateful Leadership Journey” with all of us. I hope I don’t embarrass you, but will accept the consequences if I do 🙂 when I tell you this: I’m really proud of you!

Hi Debbie and welcome! I’m so glad that you found the Grateful Leadership course valuable and useful. You are right — the concepts are so simple, the results are so great and yet it is often challenging to create that culture of appreciation. That’s one of the main reasons we started the Center for Grateful Leadership. We hope that we can all help each other find the most effective ways to do this. Check out the latest “Tell Me a Story” video about a woman who trains her boss to become a Grateful Leader. It can be done! Thanks for contributing and please keep doing so.

Hi Roger! It’s wonderful to see you here and I know you have a great deal to contribute to our Center for Grateful Leadership. I think the frustration you have expressed in your introduction is one worth exploring with our members. Wish you had been on our live Q&A yesterday. People were really interacting and supporting and giving suggestions to each other about some sticky issues. Take a look at the archived event and you will see what I mean. Maybe you can just give your Director the poster of the 5 Cs and have a conversation about this — about how much more meaningful it is to people to be acknowledged in a heartfelt and sincere way than to receive an email blast, no matter how well intended. Does anyone else have some insights or suggestions to share with Roger? Again, thanks for joining the CGL!

Does anyone want to reach out right now to someone with an acknowledgment and make a huge difference in their day and perhaps their lives? Let us  know if you did!

Dear Kim – what a beautiful and healing acknowledgment you delivered in an unimaginably awful situation. Your humanity came through so strongly that your friend took comfort. I’m so happy to hear that you were able to bring this to her.

Shana! I’m so glad you are here with us! I remember when your were an Air Force Captain in Iraq, was it, and you got up in the middle of the night to participate in our webinar on The Power of Acknowledgment! I was so impressed with your enthusiasm and dedication to this work,  and we became connected for life! I’m sure you can help us bring it to the next level. Hope you can join us on August 2nd at 11:00 am to 12 noon ET. Hugs from afar!

Hi Karen! We are so glad you are here and that you are a mentor for new managers and female technologists. You have a real opportunity to share these principles with all of them, and help enhance your culture of appreciation where you work. I am delivering a keynote address to a group called “Women Innovating Now” at a pharmaceutical company in October and am very excited about the opportunity to discuss the link between Appreciation and Innovation! It’s an exciting new aspect of this work. I’m happy to share about this with you and others if there is interest.
