Dear Judy, Thank you very much for your Kind words and welcoming this topic to be opened and shared. I am glad and grateful that this particular discussion Board exists ! As re my father, I just learned today that his cancer has bit spread though it can be treated effectively, so I am even more and more motivated to run the extra miles to be a better neutral Listener and more compassionate and caring person to my nearest people or anyone if they are open to it.

Hello, Wanted to add bit here on my earlier post on how to use POA in family disputes.

I tried it yesterday with one of my family members as an opening gate and seemed to work very well.

I have had some long term issues with my father for a long time, and especially communication issues but using POA is starting to roll-out very wonderfully seems.

I was in a breaking point yesterday as the dispute been going on so long, and my father sent a message that he is ready to discuss with me and to rearrange his schedule just so it fits me. It made a Huge impact to me as have not seen that kind of message earlier for a long time. So when I actually met him I aknowledged it, even though could not do it in full deep mode, but as well as I could at that point.

Anyway, our meeting went very well and we are now starting to resolve the complicated family dispute step by step meetings with him first and then adding new family members gradually into face-to-face discussions. I realized also a lot of issues  are to deal with communication and misinterpretations and past traumas which are affecting the communication of today. So keeping on the positive path now ! Hope this helps anyone else struggling with family communication issues. Ilona

Hi Tom, Thanks very much for sharing your similar sounding experience ! and interesting to hear that you tried different approaches too.

I am thinking also that the family disputes are especially difficult somehow cos there is a long mutual history and the persons know each others pretty deeply to some degree unless they distanced from each others later for some reason.

I am struggling with finding the ways to resolve this dispute with the family and to have courage to use positive Aknowledgment in skillful way that would help progress the actual dispute. On the other hand I am also thinking that is it really so bad to be in dispute- -as long as there is some communication going on ? In some cultures, including Finland and maybe Asian countries, seems that people try to avoid open conflict to the last bit as it feels so difficult to deal with. Anyway, hoping your issue also will get resolved soon. Cheers, Ilona

Hi Tom. your story about Josh was very inspiring and touching to me. I am in a middle of something bit similar situation where I have to try to think and see of the real good sides of the other person/relative instead of focusing on the judgement and differences between us and in our whole value systems. I honour your courage and take bit that on me to do something similar at some time frame with my own relatives. Cheers, ilona

Hi all ! Nice to meet you virtually. I am Ilona from IIL Finland. I have seen Judy giving presentations and workshops in Finland and seen a lot of miraculous things happening among engineer and line manager audience and lots of  tears of expression and emotion flowing at the Aknowledgement exercises.

Here in Finland the culture does not support too much of the Aknowledging approach I think, but it certainly would not harm to increase it a lot ! I will be reading the posts and glad to share my stories as well.

Personally I am committed to growth and opening my heart every day more and as much and as fast as possible.  Been just involved in a painful and long family /relatives fight for a few years and just recently – today (!) practising truthful and heartfelt communication as best as I can as otherwise there is no happy end for anyone. I am only a beginner I can say !

    Cheers, Ilona
